At Chesham Youth Centre we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Youth Support Worker to assist with growing our youth programme. We currently support a number of young people in Chesham through our Senior Youth Club and various support services.

Our club re-opened in September 2021 and the number of young people attending has steadily been growing. We are now looking for a Youth Support Worker to assist our Senior Youth Worker in delivering inclusive and inspiring sessions that support our young people’s personal development and meet their needs.

You will need to be available to work from 6– 9pm on Wednesday evenings during term time as this is club night. This includes time for setting up before, and packing away after, club.


Key Responsibilities will include:


  • To work closely with our Senior Youth Worker, club volunteers and young people themselves to assist in delivering a programme of activities that meets our young people’s needs and engages their interest

  • To support our Senior Youth Worker in planning activities, ensuring that the youth club provision is appropriate, inclusive and cost-effective, and supports young people’s personal development

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with the young people attending the club, offering support and advice and identifying key issues relevant to them, as appropriate

  • To help ensure that young people play an active role in the youth club and are aware of their rights and responsibilities, both within the club and beyond

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with the wider community including parents, volunteers and partner agencies

  • To commit to professional development, with a willingness to make the most of ongoing training opportunities

  • To work in ways which promote equality of opportunity, participation and responsibility

  • To work to safeguard the welfare of all members of the Youth Centre, in compliance with the Youth Centre’s safeguarding policy

  • To adhere to the Youth Centre’s policies and procedures, as well as statutory guidelines, including those on health and safety, child protection and equal opportunities

Key Details

You will need to hold a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one.

The period of this contract is initially until the end of December 2022, however we hope to be able to extend it as we develop our youth provision.

Pay scale: £10.50 per hour including tax and national insurance as appropriate for 3 hours per week.  The funding for this post is supported by the Rothschild Covid-19 Grant.
