A new venture at Chesham Youth Centre started last October and is proving to be popular with young people. The youth centre was approached by Chesham’s own national pool player, Eddie Barker to see if it was possible to start a junior pool club. Eddie knew that the centre had 2 pool tables not in use, and felt that there was a call in the area to teach young people how to play properly, make it fun and competitive and enjoyable. The youth centre took this on board and obtained funding both from Paradigm Foundation and Chiltern District Council which enable them to get the tables recovered, pay for advertising and new equipment. The club is going from strength to strength with the installation this month of another pool table, kindly given to them by a local resident, for which the club and youth centre are really appreciative. This means that the young people get longer on the tables and we can expand our numbers.
Currently pool club meets at the Youth Centre, Bellingdon Road, Chesham every Thursday at 5.30 – 7.30 pm. If anyone wants their children to do something different, fun and in a secure environment then please pop along. All volunteers with the youth centre are DBS checked and come under the safeguarding policies of the centre. We take young people up to age of 18 as long as they can reach the tables. Currently our youngest is 5 years old, so we cover a wide age range. Parents are welcome to stay and we do have a ‘coffee’ group of parents as well . So if you have bored sons and daughters do consider trying us, first session is free, and after that it is £3.00 session.
